Meta Glasses Launch From $299 Without Ray-Ban or Oakley Branding.
Meta is expanding its position in the rapidly developing AI eyewear market with a new range of smart glasses carrying its own name. Developed in partnership with EssilorLuxottica, Meta Glasses build on the technology already used across the Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta collections. The key difference is branding: the new frames will be sold as Meta products rather than under one of EssilorLuxottica’s established eyewear brands. Starting at $299 in the United States, the launch gives Meta a more accessible route into the smart-glasses market while significantly expanding the choice available to consumers.
Three new Meta Glasses styles.
The initial collection includes three distinct frame designs:
- Meta Adventurer: A clean rectangular frame designed for a versatile, timeless look, available in standard and large sizes.
- Meta Fury: A bolder, more sculpted frame intended to make a stronger visual statement.
- Meta Glasses by Kylie: A slim oval frame created in collaboration with Kylie Jenner and inspired by her personal style.
Across the range, customers can choose from 26 combinations of frames, colours and lenses. Options include clear, sun, polarised and Transitions lenses, with colours ranging from Classic Black and Classic Tortoise to Racing Green, Merlot and Sandstone. The glasses are also compatible with prescription lenses, bringing the technology closer to everyday optical use rather than positioning it solely as a consumer electronics product.
What can Meta AI Glasses do?
Meta Glasses combine conventional eyewear with hands-free access to digital and AI-powered features. Users can capture photographs and video, listen to music and podcasts through open-ear speakers, make calls, send messages and interact with Meta AI using voice controls. The range includes an advanced multi-microphone system designed to improve voice clarity and reduce wind noise, alongside more than eight hours of battery life. A portable charging case provides additional power while away from home. Meta has also introduced adjustable nose pads, temple tips and hinges to improve comfort and accommodate a wider variety of face shapes. These details will be important if smart glasses are to move beyond occasional use and become products people are comfortable wearing throughout the day.
Why the $299 price matters.
Price remains one of the biggest barriers to wider smart-glasses adoption. By launching Meta Adventurer and Meta Fury from $299, Meta is creating a lower entry point than some of its Ray-Ban and Oakley-branded alternatives. In the UK, the Meta Fury configuration is listed from £269. Pricing varies by frame, lens and market, with the Meta Glasses by Kylie collection positioned at a higher level. The move could help Meta reach consumers who are interested in AI eyewear but are less influenced by luxury or performance-brand associations. It also allows the company to establish a clearer product identity of its own while continuing to benefit from EssilorLuxottica’s eyewear design, lens and retail expertise.
A new branding test for smart eyewear.
Until now, much of Meta’s success in eyewear has been closely linked to recognisable names such as Ray-Ban and Oakley. Those brands provide established design credibility and immediate consumer familiarity, advantages that a technology-led brand cannot automatically replicate. The new collection will test whether the functionality of Meta’s AI glasses has become strong enough to attract buyers without a major eyewear name displayed on the product. Consumers will now be able to choose between the heritage and recognition of established eyewear brands and a more directly branded Meta product positioned around technology, personalisation and accessibility. This does not signal the end of Meta’s relationship with EssilorLuxottica. Instead, it represents an expansion of the partnership into a broader portfolio, covering different styles, use cases and price points.
Competition in AI eyewear is increasing.
Meta’s expanded range arrives as competition across smart glasses and AI wearables continues to accelerate. Technology companies and eyewear groups are exploring how cameras, audio, artificial intelligence and prescription lenses can be incorporated into products that still look and feel like conventional glasses. For the optical industry, this development creates opportunities beyond device sales. Prescription fulfilment, lens customisation, fitting, aftercare and consumer education could all become increasingly important as connected eyewear reaches a wider audience. Success will depend on more than technical capability. Comfort, frame design, privacy, battery life, prescription compatibility and retail support will all influence whether consumers adopt smart glasses as part of everyday life.
What comes next for Meta Glasses?
The launch of Meta Glasses marks another step towards making AI-enabled eyewear a mainstream product category. A starting price of $299 may broaden access, but the bigger question is whether consumers are ready to choose technology-led eyewear without relying on the appeal of Ray-Ban or Oakley branding. If the new collection gains traction, it could demonstrate that smart-glasses technology is beginning to develop an identity, and a consumer market, of its own. For eyewear businesses, optical professionals and industry leaders, the range is another sign that the boundaries between technology, fashion and vision correction are becoming increasingly connected.
