๐ŸŒŽ In a powerful example of global eyecare collaboration, two leading ophthalmologists from Moorfields Eye Hospital, London have helped restore vision to over 20 young people in Bangladesh, months after they suffered severe eye trauma during political protests.

๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš•๏ธ Consultants Mahi Muqit and Niaz Islam travelled to Dhaka in March to evaluate 150 patients, all aged between 14 and 30, who had sustained gunshot injuries to the eyes during the July 2024 Students Against Discrimination protests. Many had been living with partial or complete sight loss for months. Over the course of two days, the Moorfields team performed 24 sight-saving surgeries. Those not requiring surgery were provided with structured rehabilitation plans.

๐Ÿ‘€ One standout case was Rohan, a young man blinded in both eyesโ€”one permanently. Surgeons successfully repaired the damage in the other, offering hope of restored vision. Another patient, Minhaj, still had bullets lodged in his eye, which were carefully removed during surgery.

๐Ÿ™Œ Mr. Muqit, a senior vitreoretinal consultant, described the experience as โ€œan honour and an intense experience,โ€ highlighting the life-changing impact of timely surgical intervention.

๐Ÿ‘ This humanitarian mission, supported by Bangladeshโ€™s interim government, underscores the vital role of international expertise and cross-border medical cooperation in restoring vision and dignity to those affected by conflict.
