A New Frontier in Medical Science for Eyecare

๐Ÿ”ฌ A New Frontier in Medical Science for #Eyecare ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ

Artificial vision systems are pushing the boundaries of medical science, offering remarkable advancements in treating blindness. Two years after the ground-breaking surgical implantation of Intracortical Visual Prosthesis (ICVP) in a patient, researchers are now seeking additional participants to continue exploring the potential of artificial vision.

This technology, developed by a team at the Illinois Institute of Technology (ITT), involves implanting a set of miniaturised, wireless stimulators directly into the visual cortex, bypassing the #retina and optic nerves. By inserting these stimulators into the occipital lobe at the back of the head, researchers aim to determine whether individuals with blindness can perceive visual information through this innovative approach.

This revolutionary system could be the key to restoring sight for many, marking a significant leap forward in the field of artificial vision.
