๐Ÿ‘€ The Prime Minister has outlined plans to address the NHS England waiting list backlog through the Elective Reform Plan, aiming to give millions of patientsโ€™ quicker access to appointments and treatment closer to home. The College of Optometrists has expressed support for the government's commitment to ensuring patients receive care at the right time and place.

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿฆณ Currently, over 600,000 people are on NHS waiting lists for ophthalmology treatment in England, making eye care one of the largest contributors to the backlog. With an ageing population, this number is expected to grow, leading to longer delays in treatment. Unfortunately, these delays are causing unnecessary sight loss, with devastating impacts on individuals, families, and communities.

๐Ÿ‘ The College of Optometrists is calling on the government and NHS England to implement the reform plan swiftly and effectively to benefit both eye care patients and the wider NHS. By reducing waiting times and improving access to timely treatment, the plan has the potential to prevent avoidable sight loss and improve overall healthcare efficiency.
