Bausch + Lomb’s SeeLyra Femtosecond Laser Receives European CE Mark

Bausch + Lomb’s SeeLyra femtosecond laser has received European CE marking, paving the way for its introduction across Europe.

The platform supports cataract surgery preparation, LASIK flap creation, and corneal therapeutic procedures. Its design also addresses a practical consideration for surgical teams: fitting equipment into an already busy operating theatre.

According to The Ophthalmology Times, a limited European launch is expected in the coming months, with wider availability planned for 2027.

What does the  SeeLyra laser offer?

SeeLyra builds on Bausch + Lomb's previous VICTUS platform, combining multiple surgical applications in a compact system. 

It includes live swept-source optical coherence tomography (OCT), providing surgeons with real-time depth imaging during procedures. Bausch + Lomb stated that this design supports positioning and visual control when applying the laser. It also retains familiar features from VICTUS, including its user interface and support for cataract, LASIK flap, and corneal treatments. 

Designed to fit existing operating theatres

One of SeeLyra's defining features is the absence of a fixed patient bed. The system is designed to work with existing bed configurations, giving surgical teams more flexibility over where they position the equipment. An articulating swing arm accommodates different surgical orientations. Bausch + Lomb also stated the design removes the need for patients to switch beds between procedures. 

These features together are intended to make the platform easier to accommodate within existing theatre layouts. 

When will SeeLyra be available?

The European introduction will be phased, with limited availability initially and a broader rollout expected in 2027. Regulatory approvals in other markets, including the United States, are also being pursued. 

The announcement did not include SeeLyra-specific trial results. Its performance in routine use will therefore be an important part of the story as availability expands.
