π± A recent study has highlighted the alarming impact of excessive screen time on childrenβs eye health. Researchers examined 462 children aged 9 to 14 and found a significant link between prolonged digital device use and ocular surface disruption.
π The study included thorough ocular examinations, such as tear film breakup time and Schirmerβs test. Results were starling: 90.5% of participants exhibited symptoms of dry eye disease, and 19% had moderate to severe cases.
πΆ Based on these findings, the researchers strongly advise that children limit their screen time to no more than three hours daily. They emphasised that cumulative exposure beyond 3-3.5 hours per day dramatically increases the risk of ocular surface issues.
π» This study serves as an important reminder for policymakers and parents to monitor and manage childrenβs digital device use to safeguard their eye health.
