📺It might seem counterintuitive, but new research suggests that watching television could benefit your eyesight. A study published in BMC Ophthalmology in March 2024 found that “leisure television watching” might reduce the risk of developing myopia as one ages.

👀The study, using Mendelian randomisation methods, indicates that leisurely TV watching can help safeguard against myopia. Due to television screens having become larger and more common in households, they are having less impact on viewers’ vision and are seen as a less harmful alternative to intense video gaming.

🖥️However, “leisure computer use” – a less passive activity compared to TV watching – is linked to an increased risk of myopia, contributing significantly to the myopia pandemic.
