Appasamy Associates has acquired German ophthalmic surgical technology manufacturer RUCK, strengthening its portfolio of systems for cataract and vitreoretinal surgery. The acquisition combines Appasamy’s international reach with RUCK’s specialist engineering expertise. For the Chennai-based, Warburg Pincus-backed manufacturer, it is a further step towards building a broader global surgical ophthalmology business. ### What RUCK brings to Appasamy. RUCK has more than four decades of experience in ophthalmic surgery. Its portfolio includes the Pentasys, Qube and flagship Qube Pro surgical systems, with Qube Pro and Pentasys established among surgeons in Germany and the Benelux region. The acquisition adds specialist phaco-vitrectomy capabilities to Appasamy’s technology base, strengthening its offering across anterior and posterior segment procedures. RUCK’s product development also draws on collaboration with ophthalmologists and international partners, keeping clinical input connected to engineering decisions. ### Supporting the development of Qube Pro. Qube Pro is a central part of the acquisition’s strategic rationale. Appasamy CEO Senthil Kumar identified demand in India for a dependable, CE-marked phaco-vitrectomy platform, alongside opportunities in international markets. As part of Appasamy, RUCK will gain access to additional resources and capabilities to support the continued development of Qube Pro and future products.  For surgical teams, the practical value of any platform extends beyond its technical specifications. Training, dependable service and ongoing product support also shape how equipment fits into everyday clinical practice. These will be important considerations as the businesses develop their combined offering. ### Retaining engineering expertise in Germany. RUCK’s engineering and product development operations will remain in Germany, complementing Appasamy’s existing medical technology centres in Denmark and San Francisco. This continuity preserves the expertise behind RUCK’s systems while connecting it with a wider international organisation. RUCK CEO Florian Becker said the partnership would support further development of Qube Pro and create opportunities to bring its technology to more surgeons internationally. ### Expanding access to ophthalmic surgical technology. Appasamy sees its network of more than 20,000 ophthalmologists in India as an opportunity to expand access to specialist surgical technologies. The acquisition gives RUCK a route to broader international reach while deepening Appasamy’s surgical equipment portfolio. The opportunity now lies in translating those complementary strengths into practical support for the surgeons and teams using the technology. For ophthalmic businesses pursuing international growth, the people behind the equipment remain central. Engineering, clinical applications, field service and commercial teams each contribute to introducing technology successfully and supporting customers over time.     ## Stay connected with Vision Executives.
